COVID-19 UPDATE

March 20, 2020

Hello Fulford UMC Community:

We are living in an unprecedented time that will be mentioned for generations to come. Cities, states, and countries across the world saw empty streets, sporting games cancelled and citizens on lock-down over the corona virus pandemic.

I continue to urge you during this time of anxiety, panic and uncertainty that we would be a symbol of God’s grace, compassion and love to our neighbors, to everyone. When everything is uncertain, everything that is important becomes clear. It is not easy, but let us trust God and take it one day at a time.

“Hope frees us to live in the present, with the deep trust that God, will never leave us.” – Henri Nouwen

March 13, 2020

Hello Fulford UMC Community:

We are continuing to watch the updates regarding the COVID-19. Many have asked about our worship services, Fulford Christian Academy and our ministries and services we provide at Fulford. We take the health and well-being our congregation, staff, and community very seriously.

We the Church, the people of God, believers in Christ Jesus our Lord, has always taken the lead in being a refuge — that place and point of holistic love, encouragement and support — “a shelter in the time of storm.” We urge you during this time of anxiety, panic and uncertainty that we would be a symbol of God’s grace, compassion and love to our neighbors.

After great prayer, discernment and discussion with the Conference and District office, Fulford will be open for worship on Sunday at both 8:30AM and 10:45AM. We will gather differently this Sunday in love and care for each other and in respect of the leadership that our church and officials are seeking to exercise in our best interests. This is what that will look like:

Cancelled Events:

  • Miami-Dade County Public School (MDCPS) have closed school effective Monday, March 16, 2020. Schools will remain closed through the week. The following week is spring break. A decision for that week that follows spring break has not been made. At Fulford Christian Academy, we follow the mandate of MDCPS which means we will also close school at the Academy.
  • Open Table Community Dinner at Highland Village is cancelled on Thursday, March 19th
  • Saturday Morning and Wednesday Night Bible Study are cancelled until further notice.
  • The weekly recovery group meetings are also cancelled until further notice
  • If you aren’t feeling well, or are unable to be in worship for any other reason, our 8:30AM and 10:45AM service is live-streamed on Facebook each Sunday at: https://www.facebook.com/fulfordumc. If you need assistance setting this up on your computer, tablet, or phone, please call the church office. We’ll be happy to help you!
  • We have temporarily suspended the serving of Communion in worship. We look forward to sharing the bread and cup when this season has passed!
  • We will temporarily discontinue the “Passing of the Peace” moment during worship, when we shake hands. Again, we look forward to returning to this soon! When greeting one another before and after worship, we encourage you to smile, wave, or bump elbows. This may feel awkward and unfriendly, but it is a way of showing love to those around us in this season by safeguarding their health — and yours!
  • We will not be passing offering plates during the worship services. Instead, we will be providing an opportunity to come forward during the offering time to place our tithes, offerings, and gifts in a basket.
  • We are also encouraging people to use our online giving option. Most local churches operate on a very close margin in terms of financial giving, so your continued regular giving is incredibly important to our church! Financial giving can be done easily online: https://www.fulfordumc.org/give/ or a check can be mailed to the church.

If you are feeling ill:

  • First, remember, we want to make sure you are okay! Seek medical attention as needed and take care of yourself!
  •  Second, let the church know that you are ill, so that we can be praying for you. Let us know if there is something we can do to help you.
  • Third, stay home as you care for yourself. Your health is far more important than any program, project, meeting, or service! Don’t worry, we’ll be here when you’re feeling better!

The most recent, up-to-date information we have will be shared with you; as always, if you have any questions please contact the church!
